What Are the Advantages of Soft Enamel Pins?

By: Craig Craig

Normally soft enamel pins are always seen with a darker shade. According to many, these lapel pins are not as effective as the hard enamel pins. Are they really inferior to their elder sibling? In the rest of this article, we will be taking a closer look into these lapel pins. Did you know that in spite of the “disadvantages” that are usually associated with these pins, they are still in demand? There lies the beauty of these pins – once we delve deeper into the subject, you will understand the necessity to invest in these custom lapel pins.
Soft enamel pins and hard enamel pins are manufactured using the same procedure, but there is a slight variation in the drying process of the applied paint. Once the paint is applied, instead of subjecting it to intense pressure and temperature (as done for the manufacture of hard enamel pins), these pins are simply air-dried. A current of air is allowed to fall into the wet paint and hence the paint will dry! This is the functional difference between soft enamel pins and hard enamel pins. The difference does not end merely with the drying process.
Try rubbing into the surface of soft enamel pins. You will find that the surface is a bit rough, in comparison to the smooth surfaced hard enamel pins. You will feel the steel markings protruding out of the surface of a pin that is manufactured using this process. In simpler terms, one look into the pin and you will experience a three dimensional feeling of the markings. In fact, this is the sole reason why these pins are still in demand these days. People love that three dimensional view of these lapel pins and hence, these pins are sold in larger numbers.
It is hard to come by manufacturers who specialize in the production of these pins. Even if you come across one, they will take some time to realize your batch! It requires special artistic talent to design the surface of the lapel pin. Besides the application of the paint and the subsequent air-drying procedure, the pins must be handled with the strictest quality control measures in place. The ones who are touted as the self-proclaimed leaders in the niche will find it difficult to meet the demands of the ever-increasing demand.
Some of these manufacturers are noted to go the extra mile by shipping the mould of the lapel pin along with the finished product. This is very helpful from the customer’s perspective. At a later date, should the need arise for more lapel pins, you can use the same mould to create custom lapel pins. The total time period required for the manufacture and shipping of the soft enamel pins will be lowered, likewise. If you are thinking about gifting these pins in the corporate world, then you are thinking in the wrong manner. Usually hard enamel pins are given away as corporate gifts!
